Birthday giveaway

Another year, another birthday, another birthday giveaway! I turn 30 on Sunday, and I’m celebrating by riding my horse, watchingΒ Harry And Snowman, and having my traditional birthday meal of chile verde and a margarita the size of my head. And, of course, by having my third annual blog birthday giveaway- I like to share the birthday joy!

All you have to do is comment on this post and tell me what you like to do to celebrate your birthday. Do you have a party? Keep it low key? Sit around in your underpants all day just because you can?

You have until next Thursday (11/03/16) at midnight to enter; a winner will be randomly selected and announced next Friday (11/04/16). Much like a birthday present, your prize package is a surprise, but I promise it’ll be full of delightful things for you and your ponies!

    1. I have two good friends with close-to-Christmas birthdays and always feel like I should do something really nuts for their birthdays so they aren’t overshadowed by Christmas! (They assure me I certainly do not need to do that.)

  1. Happy birthday!!

I like to pretend that my friends/family will plan a surprise party for me. It hasn’t happened yet but hopefully someday before I die, eh? (Lest I sound like a mooch, I generally plan my own small shindig with a few close friends.)

    1. I totally get it; I like to pretend the same thing. I cannot imagine Johnny successfully pulling off a surprise party, though, because he can’t keep a secret.

  2. Happy birthday! I hope your margarita is perfect and your horse is an angel for your birthday ride. My birthdays are pretty low key, since I’m awkwardly in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I generally like a good meal, and something that involves Bailey’s and chocolate since dessert is the best. Even if it’s freezing (thanks, Minnesota) a birthday ride will usually happen – last year I jumped my younger horse 3’3 for the first time. She goes vaguely crazy every winter so successful winter rides are generally “didn’t spook and almost kill us running into the indoor arena walls” so we will see what this year brings #loweredexpectations πŸ˜›

  3. Happy Birthday. I generally like to celebrate my birthday by taking the day off to ride and read. This year I’m planning a trip with some girlfriends to celebrate 30 (I’m trying to convince them we should celebrate at the end of April in Kentucky rather than in Feb in cold snowy AB)

  4. I always get so excited for my birthday until a couple days before, and then I am filled with never ending dread. When I was 6 I had a birthday party that a bunch of people RSVP’d to but no one attended. No matter how many good birthdays I had after that, that memory haunts me.

So most days I pretend I’m not having a birthday and those close to me coax me out for a nice meal and cake.

    1. This is basically every party I plan (except my wedding). Every year for my birthday, several people will say “Yes! I will be there for margaritas!” and inevitably have something come up that makes them unable to attend. I’m certain they aren’t being mean and these absences aren’t planned, but I am always a little sad. (I do have other friends that always attend, though, so my birthdays are not full of doom and gloom or anything.)

    2. I had a birthday like this is 9! It’s weird how something like that when you’re a child sticks with you. Good thing for good friends that make you feel special anyway.

  5. Happy early birthday! I love to spend my day with horses and friends, preferably ending with a good dinner out with DH (so I don’t have to do dishes lol) and a bottle of my favorite wine!

  6. Happy Birthday- your plan sounds perfect to me. I like to keep it pretty low key. My husband and I will go out to dinner or order in depending on how we feel.

  7. Happy (early) Birthday!
My birthday this year was actually perfect! I had a fantastic lesson on Roger in the morning and then went on a trail ride with my trainer, took a nap, and then went to a BYOB painting night with a friend. I generally like to do something low-key for my birthday nowadays, my “WOOHOO LET’S PARTY AND GET HAMMERED!!!” days are behind me πŸ˜‰

    1. Ugh, preach, sister!! I tried the “LET’S GET SUPER DRUNK LIKE I DID WHEN I WAS 21-22-23” a few years ago and I’m pretty sure that’s the time I threw up on myself and insisted I ought to put my shirt in the dishwasher to clean it. And had a two-day hangover. It was not my finest moment.

  8. I wish that movie was coming to Nashville.

I normally keep it low key. It’s normally just Kyle and I and we get dinner. I like to ride too and try to spend as much of the day at the barn as I can.

  9. Happy birthday and how generous of you! My 21st is on Tuesday and I think my sister has something up her sleeve but I’m not sure. I really just want mexican food and a margarita the size of my head like you do! I’d also like the day off but apparently that is frowned upon as an adult.

  10. I’ll take one of those head-sized margaritas (why isn’t that a standard menu option?), and usually we have a chill day with maybe a family dinner thrown in. If there are horses to ride, I am all about that, but otherwise keep it low-key.

  11. Happy Birthday!!! I usually like to go out to dinner with my hubby on my actual birthday, and usually I get together to host a BBQ or something with my family since my brother’s birthday is two days after mine. We keep it pretty low key!

  12. Happy birthday Stephanie!!! I totally would go for a margarita the size of my head on any day, but I feel like on birthdays, it is a requirement. πŸ˜‰ I also prefer not to go to work on my birthday and to spend it doing something fun. Last year I forced Jason to come to the barn with me and take pictures of me riding Paige. πŸ˜‰

  13. Happy Birthday! I usually celebrate my birthday by choosing whatever I want for dinner: homemade OR out to eat! And of course, a few rounds of birthday drinks with friends.

  14. Happy Happy Birthday!!! Hope you fit some cake into that plan.
My birthday’s are generally just another day, but I do make sure to include lots of cake all day long.
I think I won this giveaway last year though, so please exclude me from the drawing. I just wanted to wish you a happy day!

  15. I hope your day is amazing – it sounds pretty perfect!

I’m totally on the Mexican food for birthdays (and all days) program, plus I like to spend a large amount of time at the barn, since it’s ‘my’ day and anyone who complains about it just looks like a big meanie πŸ˜‰

  16. As long as there is copious amounts of food in front of my face at all times, I’m happy! So really my birthday isn’t any different from any other day. πŸ˜‰

  17. Happy Birthday! In the past we always went on vacation around my birthday so I’ve spent a few birthdays on cruises or in other countries. This year we didn’t travel because of chaos in my work life, but we did get fondue dinner and dessert, which is pretty awesome.

  18. Happy birthday!! I usually keep things pretty quiet – dinner and drinks with whatever friends are around. In college, my birthday always fell over spring break, so it was really hard to celebrate with anyone other than my family members!

  19. Happy Birthday!!

The last couple years instead of presents or a party we have gone on low key trips to see all the cool stuff around Michigan. Last year we went to Taquemona Falls in the UP. This year we went to the Petosky area to a couple of wineries. I like that much more than a party!

  20. Happy Birthday!

I don’t really do anything. I might buy my lunch at work, and make sure I get a barn day in…but that’s it. I”m not really a big occasion kind of person.

  21. Happy birthday! It’s my bday today (I’m 31). πŸ™‚ I’m celebrating tomorrow! Just going to sleep in, be a couch lump, eat a cheese plate and visit my ponies. πŸ™‚

  22. Birthdays are my jam. Happy birthday! I hope it is a fabulous one.

This year, I did not do much for my birthday. I was between jobs, in the middle of moving and traveling, and just generally overwhelmed. This is very unlike me. I like to have big, food-filled birthday weeks. Fancy food for me and boyfriend, fun party foods for me and friends, signature drinks (recipes shamelessly stolen from bars that I like), and general revelry with Elinore in tow!

  23. I like to spend my birthday with friends! The level of excitement we have depends on what day my birthday falls on but no matter if it’s low key or at a hunt ball I enjoy being around my friends πŸ™‚

  24. Happy Belated Birthday!

I like a low key birthday – spend time with the family, enjoy some yummy birthday cake and go out for a nice dinner (Mmm Melting Pot!). This year we went to a Brewfest and that was great fun. I can see myself doing that again.

  25. happy birthday stephanie!! hope you have a great time celebrating the occasion πŸ™‚ my favorite thing about birthdays is that they’re always such a perfect opportunity to just sit back and enjoy the day (or week, or month lol, depending on your style) πŸ˜€

  26. Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day.

The thing I most look forward to on my birthdays is Biscuit Cake. It’s a family recipe that my nan came up with to use up broken cookies from their shop, and it’s delicious. I shamelessly ask my mom to make it if I see her around my birthday, if I don’t then I make it myself.

  27. Happy Birthday! I am definitely in the low-key department. I normally just go about my day, in my head I am smiling because its my birthday, but I don’t feel the need for anyone else to acknowledge the day…
