Friday Five

Whew, I’m awfully glad it’s Friday! I’m looking forward to hunting tomorrow and unpacking more boxes on Sunday (I swear they’re breeding out in the shed). Here’s what’s been on my radar this week:

ONE Goodreads introduces rereading feature

I use Goodreads to log my reading challenges, but I’ve always been bummed that there wasn’t a great way to track books you’ve read more than once. After two years of reading only new-to-me books, I’m allowing myself to return to the “comfort foods” of my bookshelf: Mercedes Lackey’s early Valdemar novels, Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels, and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. I’m excited that these rereads will “officially” count toward my Goodreads annual reading challenge!

TWO Run The Jewels Tiny Desk Concert

One of RTJ’s three albums is always in our living room CD player; their music is stellar, and they’re an amazing act to see live. El-P and Killer Mike stopped by NPR’s studio as part of the NPR Tiny Desk Concert series- you should absolutely check it out! (Related: Run The Jewels on NPR’s news game show “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!”)

THREE The Tex-Mex Cookbook: A History in Recipes and Photos

Lately, I’ve been working my way through the various cookbooks I own. I grab one at random, leaf through it to find recipes to make each weeknight, and cook accordingly. This week, I’ve been using Robb Walsh’s Tex-Mex cookbook. It’s an interesting book that includes information on the history and evolution of Tex-Mex cuisine in addition to solid recipes for favorites like enchiladas, tacos, and tamales.

FOUR Sailing, woolly jumpers, and local herds: Shetlands go on exciting adventure

Shetland ponies on a boat. Shetland ponies wearing sweaters. Shetland ponies carrying baskets. CUTE OVERLOAD.

FIVE Footloose is real in 2017, y’all

In recent “WTF Oklahoma” news (it’s constant), an upcoming Valentine’s Day dance was shut down because of a city ordinance which prohibits dancing within 500 feet of a church. Sigh.

What are y’all up to this weekend?

  1. I was raised in the Baptist tradition and you post reminded me of the joke “why don’t Baptists believe in sex? Because it leads to dancing” 😀

But shetlands on a boat? What more would you want!
