Friday Five: Olympic Edition

Moe and I are headed out to Edmond, Oklahoma for the inaugural Thoroughbred Athletes benefit horse trial this weekend! We’re traveling with our friends Trista and Rookie and looking forward to a very fun (if very hot) show. You can bet that when we’re not in the saddle, we’ll be streaming dressage!

Here’s what’s on my radar:

ONE Who’s going to the GAMES?

The Horse Magazine (apparently, it’s Australia’s leading equestrian magazine) published this in-depth and interesting article on the breeding of the horses competing in Rio. It covers all horses, all disciplines, and discusses the influence of various bloodlines in each sport. Fascinating stuff!

TWO Boyd Martin behind the scenes at the Olympic village

Boyd Martin’s been blowing up his personal page with photos and videos from the Olympic village. He’s captured everything from race walkers to staff taking selfies with Valegro.

THREE The Duo That Dominates Dressage

Speaking of Valegro, The New Yorker has a marvelous piece on the dressage superstar and his rider. You should go read it right now.

FOUR How to watch eventing at the 2016 Olympic Games

Eventing Nation has all the details on how to watch the Games online and on TV; be warned, you’ll need a cable subscription (or a friend with a cable subscription)! It’s nice to hear that eventing, dressage, and showjumping will get some live TV coverage at normal times! (I remember taping the 2004 Olympics because they were airing on Bravo at something like 2 AM.)

FIVE NBC’s Q&As with Clark Montgomery and Boyd Martin

Clark Montgomery seems very nice and very genuine in this Q&A with NBC. Boyd Martin is characteristically ridiculous- when asked what he’s doing to stay mentally and physically fit, he replied, “The beer and hotdogs are now on hold.” Oh, Boyd, America is the right place for you.

  1. I can’t wait to read how your weekend goes!!!!
Also I’m so excited for the Olympics. SO EXCITED! I’ll probably miss all the horse stuff (sadz) but I love all of it!

  2. I LOVED that article about Charlotte and Valegro! Also the temptation to see all the behind the scenes olypmics villages shenanigans was *almost* enough to get me to join fb. Almost. lol

  3. I’m so late, but I love Boyd’s explanation to the interviewer when asked what it’s like to work with a partner that can’t speak out loud. That so perfectly sums it up.

  4. Thank you so much for the breeding article & New Yorker piece on Charlotte and Valegro, I’d seen photos on insta but kept forgetting to look up the article
