life with a little extra pace

New OTTB Profile

In case you missed it, The Jockey Club launched a new Equineline report focused on off track Thoroughbreds. Here’s the official press release. I’m a little biased because I worked on this product, but it’s is a cool report with lots of information.

The report is free to horses with a T.I.P. number and can be accessed on the T.I.P. Listing & Maintenance page when you’re logged into the T.I.P. website. It provides pedigree information (including a list of siblings), race record, workouts, and my favorite tidbit of information: the detailed race record.

I love reading a race’s footnotes. “SKY FULL OF STARS close up, outside, closer second turn, bid, dueled, inched clear. RAG’S BOY well place, outside, advanced second turn, dueled, no match late. TURN TO INCLUDE stalked, outside, steady advance, bid, up for show. DYNAMACHO close up, inside, advanced second turn, no late response. RUNAWAY BLING improved position. WEST ROAD forced pace, tired. STEEL BATTALION clear early, dueled backstretch, faded. LIV’S LEGACY never close. TOP ROW showed little.” You can practically hear the race caller! These are available right in the report for every race the horse ran.

Did you know about this? Have you looked up your horse? Have you seen anyone sharing a link to this report on sales posts or listings? I’m really interested to know if anyone’s using this out in the wild!

Oooh very cool!! I love scrounging around Equibase and reading all the race charts haha, it’s also useful for getting more context for sketchy histories when horse shopping — like doozy has a long gap plus two DNFs in her career, plus she was claimed a couple times. Looks like this new site is a nice facelift from Equibase site that’s a bit easier to navigate and get everything all in one place per horse. Tho at least Equibase is still there for horses that don’t have TIP numbers too. I love that there’s so much info available on these horse’s careers and histories!

The thoroughbred logic blogger on horse nation also recently did a breakdown on what specific stats she likes to look at in a horses history when she’s evaluating it as a resale candidate, was a very interesting perspective
